Daily schedule includes free play in the morning and afternoon which allows time for nurturing social skills and for individual time with the teacher. With the exception of theater, the activities listed are part of the daily program.
|
| CALENDAR / SHOW AND TELL School
begins with a group welcoming circle. Children utilize their speaking
and listening skills by taking turns counting the days in the month and
talking in front of the group. Group concerns and feelings are
discussed freely. Students participate in the daily theme discussion
and are encouraged to share ideas on learning activities and personal
experiences.
|
| READING AND MATH
A
multitude of materials and activities, as well as preschool computers
are used at Home Again to teach readiness skills from shapes and
colors, letters and numbers, to visual and auditory discrimination and
sequencing to actual reading, printing and solving equations.
Discovery through hands-on activities, group challenges, and
individual tutoring are incorporated.
|
| SCIENCE: NATURE, ANIMALS AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Children
experience hands on play using experiments and observation through
planned and spontaneous activities. Themes include water, magnets,
recycling, gardening, sound, light, insects, plants, polymers, life
cycles, dinosaurs, the body and more.
|
| MUSIC AND MOVEMENT
All
types of music are explored from simple chants to African drum rhythms
to Beethoven to composing our own songs. Home Again has a collection of
children's instruments and instruments from around the world for their
use. Movement ranges from simple, large motor movements and
improvisation to choreographed dance and performance.
|
| YOGA
Besides
developing muscle and bone flexibility and strength, yoga has been
proven to alleviate stress in children, aid in digestion, promote self
discipline and help in concentration and learning. Students combine
breathing and meditation with yoga in a playful manner to balance mind
body and spirit. Asanas relate to daily themes.
|
| SOCIAL STUDIES Students
learn about topical issues, holidays, historical events, people and
places in a concrete manner at a level that relates to their own
experiences. Topics are reinforced through yoga, art, and movement.
|
| THEATER Children
learn to act out feelings, characters, and stories using improvisation,
puppetry, mime, movement, and vocalization. Books, familiar scenes,
characters, and feelings are dramatized by Judy and the students.
Spontaneous “plays” are encouraged. Twice a year students put on a
performance for parents and families. They experience all aspects of
putting on a show, from writing to rehearsing to performing in front of
an audience. They invent dialogue, memorize lines, timing and
placement, and help with scenery and props.
|
| ARTS AND CRAFTS
Home
Again’s goal is to expose children to the beauty and joy of art in
daily life. Home Again offers a unique program which teaches and
challenges the child’s artistic intelligence using many kinds of
mediums, often reserved only for older children. Emphasis is on
individual creativity and teaching children what materials can do and
how to use them in various ways to create their own art work. They are
exposed to works by major artists and may even experience the feeling
of the art through paint, poetry or movement. Children title their
creations themselves.
|
| OUTDOOR PLAY Outdoor
play is a daily activity in all seasons and in all types of weather
except heavy rainfall. Outdoor equipment includes swings, climbing,
sliding and tunneling apparatus, sand box and digging hole, assorted
balls, water table, pools and more. Emphasis is on natural imaginative
play. In addition, learning activities may be held outdoors.
